Firefly Festival & OC Air Show Come to Delmarva

Delaware and Maryland are the sites for several big events this weekend. In Dover – it’s the start of the Firefly Music Festival. Thousands of people began arriving at the camping sites yesterday and with the expected number of patrons attending the festival, Leipsic Road and Persimmon Tree Road in the vicinity of Dover Speedway will be closed to through traffic beginning at noon on Thursday, June 14, 2018 until Sunday evening, June 17, 2018.

At the conclusion of the festival, all roads will be reopened. Local residents will not have access through the closure area until the conclusion of the festival.

In Ocean City – the 2018 Air Show will take to the skies on Saturday. Residents and visitors should expect traffic delays on Saturday and Sunday with traffic congestion expected in the downtown area from the Route 50 Bridge to north of 33rd Street each day from 11 a.m. through 5 p.m. Traffic patterns will be altered from 21st Street south to help you leave the event each day from 3:30pm until cleared on both days.

The Route 50 Drawbridge will be skipping the scheduled opening at 4:25 p.m. on both days of the event to allow traffic to flow out of town.

Spectators are urged to arrive before 10:30 a.m. or take advantage of the municipal bus system to get to and from the event. Buses stand ready leaving every few minutes at the Park and Ride Lot on Route 50 and also the Tanger Outlets across Route 50. Regular bus service on Coastal Highway starting at 144th Street at the Ocean City Northside Transit Station will be leaving southbound every ten minutes or less.

Raise Your Hand to Ride the Tram. The Boardwalk Trams will continue to operate except at the full height of the air show given crowd levels on the Boardwalk. Trams will operate from the 27th Street Station on the Boardwalk to the First Street Station near the Inlet. The tram stops upon request.

In addition, significant pedestrian traffic is also expected near the event and in surrounding areas. Pedestrians are encouraged to Walk Smart, use crosswalks, and cross with caution.
