Fire at J&J Contracting Storage Facility in Felton Saturday – Accidental
A commercial building fire on South Dupont Highway in Felton Saturday afternoon has been ruled accidental by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office. Felton Community firefighters were called by a rental tenant at the J&J Contracting Storage Facility just after 2:30pm. Crews arriving at the scene found heavy smoke and fire inside the building. Assistance was provided by multiple area fire companies and one firefighter was treated at Bayhealth Kent Campus for a leg injury.
Investigation by Deputy State Fire Marshal determined the fire originated in an engine compartment of a pickup that was being worked on at the time, but couldn’t be moved out of the building before the fire spread to surrounding combustible materials.
Damage is estimated at $300,000.
