From July 19 to August 18, enjoy the exhibition that has been part of the league’s program since its inception: the 86th Annual Members’ Fine Art Exhibition. Also on display will be W.A.S. Hatch’s solo show, “Dreamscapes,” and two showcases of pieces from RAL’s Fine Art Collection.

On the evening of July 19th from 5-7 pm, the art league will be hosting an opening reception for these new exhibits, inviting anyone interested to visit the Corkran, Tubbs, Ventures, and Homestead galleries to see the displayed work.

The Members’ Fine Art Exhibition has been a part of the Rehoboth Art League’s summer lineup since the league was founded 86 years ago. This long-standing show highlights artwork by more than 80 member artists in a wide variety of media, including paintings in pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil, and mixed media; sculptures of both metal and wood; photography, and more.

As per tradition, a variety of awards are presented for outstanding artworks, judged byHeidi Lowe, who will give a free Gallery Talkat 10am on Saturday, July 20 in the Corkran Gallery. She will provide an overview of his awards decisions and discuss other notable pieces from the Members’ Fine Art Exhibition. All RAL Gallery Talks are open to the public and exhibiting artists.

Scenes of surreal color will take over the Ventures Gallery in “Dreamscapes: Landscapes by W.A.S. Hatch.” This group of acrylic and watercolor paintings by W.A.S. Hatch present vibrant colors combined with expressive brushstrokes, which, together, create landscapes that tickle the imagination. Skies of hot pink, yellow and blue make for dreamy visions of lands only imagined. Hatch’s fifty-year artistic career has evolved from masterful printmaking in the seventies to lithe watercolors in the eighties through the early 2000s and her current acrylic paintings of familiar scenes that combine impossible colors and bold brushstrokes.

From July 19 to September 22, the league will have two unique curated shows on display to highlight pieces from RAL’s permanent fine art collection.

To coincide with the league’s annual Outdoor Show event, Collections Committe Member Kim Grube has curated an exhibit that features artwork by former “Outdoor Show Artists”, on display in the DeWitt Gallery. For 51 years, the Rehoboth Art League has presented its Outdoor Fine Art and Fine Craft Show, drawing thousands of visitors and art lovers each year to the league’s campus. Throughout these decades, numerous artists have showcased their artwork during the first two weekends in August. As a result, RAL acquired many works of art from exhibiting artists that are now in the fine art collection — some of which will be available to view in this exhibition.

The Homestead will showcase “Women’s Work: Selected Works from the Women Artists in RAL’s Fine Art Collection.” A creative force, female artists have played an important role in the enrichment of the arts. Although their contribution to the art world had always taken a “back seat” to the contribution of their male counterparts, it wasn’t until the beginning of the 20th century that things began to change for women, which transformed the traditionally male-driving social structure around the world. This exhibition highlights work created by well, and lesser, known women from the League’s Fine Art Collection.

The exhibitions are free and open to everyone during the regular gallery hours of Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday, noon to 4 pm.
