RAL: Native Plant Sale – Rehoboth Beach

September 21 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

bill-o

Join the Rehoboth Art League for their first-ever Native Plant Sale, which will celebrate the organization’s horticultural heritage. On Saturday, September 21 from 10:00am to 3:00pm, prepare for a full day of learning all about the benefits of planting native species and the beauty of garden design. The event is free and open to all!

The Rehoboth Art League’s Native Plant Sale will offer opportunities to purchase native plants grown by our local nursery partners: Bella Terra and the Inland Bays Garden Center.

Information tables will be staffed by experts from Delaware’s Master Gardener and Master Naturalist Programs. Learn about the benefits of native plants, identifying invasive species, how to test your soil or identify a tree, the benefits of using integrated pest management/IPM practices, lawn replacement ideas, how to create a rain garden, and more. Bring your landscape questions and ask the experts!

In addition to the plant sale, the day will feature a series of workshops and tours to give attendees the opportunity to learn more about gardening and native species.

At 11:00am, there will be a free class, titled “Benefits of Native Plants Workshop,” led by a member of the Sussex County Master Gardeners, who will introduce you to the benefits of native plants. This class is free, but registration is required, and seats are limited. Register for the workshop at rehobothartleague.org/events.

There will be two guided tours of the Homestead Garden at 11:00am and 1:00pm. This beloved part of RAL’s campus was designed by the league’s founder, Louise Corkran, in 1931 and is still true to its original colonial revival design. A brief visit to the Art League’s new native plant demonstration garden will follow the tours.

A Master Naturalist Keystone Tree Walk will take place at 12:00pm and 2:00pm. Learn about the many benefits of trees and take a closer look at native Keystone Trees found across the Art League’s 3.5 acre campus. Participants will see some of the invasive plants and trees found here and the challenges they present to our native species.

The Rehoboth Art League is supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes Delaware arts events onwww.DelawareScene.com.
