Liberation & Light: Faith Communities Celebrate Juneteenth & Summer Solstice – Salisbury

The Lower Shore Value-Aligned Partnership (Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake, Fenix Youth Project, the Delmarva Free School, Future Harvest, and Young Men of Distinction) have arranged this celebration of freedom and nature. 

This is a family event, open to all ages, and free of charge, where guests come together to learn, reflect and celebrate the enduring legacy of resilience and freedom.

The day begins with our “Legacy Talk & Walk” starting at the amphitheater, guiding attendees
through the park to discover the rich history of African American leaders in Salisbury. “We will
honor the lives and stories of those who once lived on this land, including the courageous spirits of former slaves,” organizers said. As we reach the peak of the summer solstice, a Drumming Circle will create a Sacred Circle to welcome positive energies and promote healing.

The celebration will also feature a water blessing and ceremony, symbolizing renewal and
reverence for the past, present, and future. Activities include nature art, guided walks, and
educational sessions, all centered around themes of freedom, justice, and environmental
stewardship.

Full Programming Schedule:
● 10:00-10:30 AM: Welcome & Gathering
● 10:30-11:45 AM: Legacy Talk & Walk
● 12:00-1:00 PM: Sacred Circle & Drumming
● 1:15-2:00 PM: Water Blessing & Offering

All ages are welcome to honor the past, celebrate the present and embrace the future.

For walking in the woods, please wear long pants and sturdy walking shoes, as the paths are not paved and steep in some areas. Please dress for the weather, pack gardening gloves, and bring a reusable water bottle. Water coolers to refill your bottle will be provided at this event. In case of inclement weather, a decision will be made by 12:00 PM on June 18th.
