IRSD “We Are IRSD Community Festival” – Georgetown

The Indian River School District will host its first-ever We Are IRSD Community Festival onSaturday, October 5 on the grounds of the Howard T. Ennis School and Sussex Central High School. The event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The public is invited to attend this free event, which will feature food, games, entertainment, family-friendly activities and helpful resources provided by IRSD schools and community organizations. The Howard T. Ennis School is located at 26021 Patriots Way, Georgetown Delaware. Sussex Central High School is on the opposite side of Patriots Way.

“We are excited to be hosting our first-ever We Are IRSD Community Festival as a way of connecting with the community that has been so supportive of our schools,” IRSD Superintendent Dr. Jay Owens said. “This event is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our schools and our many talented students. We hope our students and families will be able to join us for a day of free, family-friendly activities.”       

The talents of numerous IRSD students will be on display at the event. “The Star Spangled Banner” will be performed by a combined group of students from Southern Delaware School of the Arts, John M. Clayton Elementary School, Georgetown Elementary School, Georgetown Middle School and Indian River High School. Individual songs will be performed by choirs from Southern Delaware School of the Arts, John M. Clayton Elementary School and Sussex Central High School.

Combined group performances by choirs from Sussex Central and Indian River high schools, and a group featuring students from the SDSA middle school choirs, Georgetown Elementary School, John M. Clayton Elementary School, Georgetown Middle School, Indian River High School and Sussex Central High School are also on the entertainment schedule.

There will be instrumental performances by the Sussex Central High School marching band, the Indian River High School drumline and a combined group featuring band members from Southern Delaware School of the Arts, Selbyville Middle School and Sussex Central High School.

There will also be a drama performance by the Sussex Central High School Take II Drama Club.

More than 40 local community organizations will also be on hand to distribute helpful information and resources. These include Beebe Medical Center, Tidal Health, First State Community Action Agency, Freeman Stage, Mountaire Farms, Nanticoke Indian Association, Delaware State Police, DelDOT, the Division of Public Health and several local police departments, fire departments and public libraries. In addition, each district school will have an information booth at the festival.

The district will be providing families with bus transportation to the festival from several local elementary schools. Each location will have one morning pick-up and two return trips from the festival. (See schedule below.) IRSD students must be accompanied by an adult to ride the bus to and from the community festival.
