Emergency Preparedness Seminar by Sussex County Department of Public Safety

Just in time for hurricane season, on Thursday, September 12, the Safer Congregation Committee of the Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware (UUSD) presents an informative seminar on how to protect your community and your home when dangerous weather hits. The 1 ½ hour presentation is given by the Sussex County Department of Public Safety and will be held in the Sanctuary at UUSD, 30486 Lewes Georgetown Highway, Lewes from 6 p.m. to 7:30. All are welcome to attend the seminar which is free.

Tips on preparing your home for hurricane season will be given, such as knowing your evacuation zone and how to stay informed of upcoming worrisome weather patterns. Attendees will learn how to make a disaster kit for emergencies and get hurricane tips. A quick CPR refresher will be offered as well.

The Sussex County Department of Public Safety “…coordinates emergency preparedness to save lives by reducing the impact of emergencies.” Among its many programs and initiatives is the Smart 911 Delaware Emergency Notification System (DENS) which directly alerts homeowners by phone of a developing emergency situation. DENS is the primary system for public warning and emergency protective action.

Everyone is encouraged to attend this helpful seminar. Bring your friends, family, neighbors and be more confident in your preparations as the community heads into hurricane season.
