Delmarva TransParent Meeting – Lewes

Delmarva TransParent is an educational/support group for the parents, grandparents, and caregivers of transgender children and adults. TransParent is launching a new chapter on the Delmarva Peninsula in response to the growing need for local support and resources to help parents raise or stand alongside their gender independent or transgender child, whether that child is a 3 year old or an adult child of age 55.
“This experience can be incredibly isolating for parents in communities without a group like TransParent to provide connection, support, and resources. Our chapter leaders help parents process a myriad of complex emotions including fear, sadness, guilt, grief, and anger so that they are able to better respond to their child’s needs” said Kim Hutton, TransParent board president. “With a suicide risk of almost 50% by the age of 19 due in large part to a lack of family acceptance and support for transgender children, TransParent chapters are needed more than ever to help eliminate this outcome.” It is being sponsored by TransParentUSA.org, a national organization supporting local groups.
Meetings are held the third Monday of each month at 7pm at the Lewes Public Library.
