Lane closures will occur on Route 1 Southbound in Milford beginning at 6pm this evening until 9am on Friday, July 19 for emergency road repairs due to heat-related heaving of the road.
DelDOT will be removing a 10-foot section of the road and installing a temporary patch to resolve the issue until a permanent repair is scheduled at a later date.

The location of the lane closure will occur just south of the new Northeast Front Street interchange in Milford in the area of mile marker 42. DelDOT will be working to complete the repair as quickly as possible. Motorists should expect delays in this area beginning Thursday evening and into Friday morning.

This type of issue can happen on any road surface during extreme temperatures. Roads are built with the ability to allow for expansion and contraction. As temperature and humidity increase, the road can run out of room to expand, and buckle, creating a safety hazard.

DelDOT will provide additional updates as necessary as the repair work progresses.
