ECI Inmate Convicted of Racketeering

An inmate from the Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover has been convicted of racketeering.  Justice officials say 43 year old Ternell Lucas has been found guilty of bribery conspiracy, bribery of a public employee, drug offenses and money laundering at the prison.  Officials say that from 2014 until October of 2016, correctional officers smuggled contraband into the prison – including drugs, cell phones, porn videos and tobacco.  Evidence presented at trial showed Lucas acted as a wholesaler and retailer of contraband.  70 of the 80 defendant originally indicted in this case have pleaded guilty – including 14 of 18 COs who were charged.  Lucas will be sentenced on August 13^th.
