The incident happened around 8:48pm on July 5th in the area of Forrest Avenue (Route 8) and Independence Boulevard. Police say 21-year-old Brandon Pleines of Dover was operating a Toyota Rav-4 eastbound on Route 8 approaching Independence when a large dark blue or black sedan in the left lane merged into the right lane, striking the driver side of Pleines’ vehicle. This caused Pleines’ Rav-4 to serve to the right, striking a curb, rolling over several times and striking a light pole and mailbox. Pleines succumbed to his injuries, although his passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect is described only as a black male. He turned off his vehicle’s headlights following the crash and fled the area in an eastbound direction.
