Dover Man Arrested For Injuring Officer Investigating a Trespassing Complaint

A Dover man was arrested by Dover Police early Tuesday morning after he injured an officer who was following up on a trespassing complaint at the Capital Inn. Police were called for a man trespassing on the hotel property and one officer was told the suspect was leaving and given a description. Police located 29 year old Matthew Clendaniel, who matched the description and ordered him to stop walking – but Clendaniel kept walking. Police tried to arrest him but Clendaniel resisted arrest refusing to put his hands behind him. After a struggle, which left one officer with minor injuries, Clendaniel was taken into custody and determined to under the influence of alcohol. Clendaniel is charged with 2nd degree assault – injury to a Law Enforcement officer and other offenses and is free after posting a $4250 unsecured bond.

  • Resisting Arrest with Force or Violence
  • Offensive Touching
  • Criminal Trespass Third
  • Menacing
  • Breach of Release
  • Public Intoxication
  • Drunk on a Highway

Clendaniel was released on $4,250 unsecured bond.
