Disputed 2016 White Marlin Open comes to a conclusion
March 30, 2018
A judge has ruled in favor of the Ocean City’s White Marlin Open in a dispute with the fishermen who contended they caught the winning fish in the tournament in 2016. The crew of the Kallianassa was disqualified for violating the rules and the $2.8 million top prize was never awarded. Now, the judge has sided with the Open, which means the winners share will be paid out to other entrants. Tournament officials say they are glad to put the legal battle behind them and now plan to focus on this year’s event, which will be held in August.
