June 16, 2023/
Dewey Beach Commissioners say no to the production and sale of marijuana in town. Commissioners discussed the town’s image and public safety, but Mayor Bill Stevens touched on another reason – that it is still illegal by federal law and the town’s beach renourishment projects are 70% funded by the federal government. He doesn’t want the possibility of losing federal funding because of marijuana dispensary in town. The commissioners were unanimous in their vote, and the Town Manager and Chief of Police also commented during the nearly 20-minute discussion. The ordinance went into effect upon passage.
