Update: Woman Shot Dead Outside Smyrna Middle School

A 38-year-old woman was shot to death Tuesday morning in the parking lot of Smyrna Middle School. Delaware State Police said the suspect is a 47-year-old man who led police into Maryland and crashed into a tree.

Police said the suspect and victim are family. Their identities have not been released. Also, the victim was not an employee of the Smyrna School District.

After the crash, the suspect was flown to a hospital for treatment.

A shooting was reported this morning on the grounds of Smyrna Middle School on Duck Creek Road.

Smyrna Police and Delaware State Police are investigating the incident. Police have said that the person who was shot is not a student.

Smyrna Schools were also placed on lockdown.
