Suspicious Object Leads To Lengthy Investigation Along Coverdale Rd.
(Update, 5:46 p.m. – The discovery of something resembling a pipe bomb resulted in an extensive investigation along Coverdale road in the Bridgeville area Wednesday.
Delaware State Police said someone who was picking up trash in the area of Mill Park Drive Wednesday morning noticed a pipe ‘contraption’ that he suspected could have been a pipe bomb.
Members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit and the Delaware Fire Marshal’s Office responded.
The device was destroyed and was not determined to be a pipe bomb.
No one was injured.
The investigation impacted traffic for about five hours.
(Update, 1:48p.m. – Coverdale Road has reopened in the area of earlier police activity.)
A criminal investigation is underway along Coverdale Road near Mill Park Drive in Bridgeville, according to Delaware State Police.
Police say Coverdale Road was closed in the area, and people in the area may notice extra police presence.
State Police said this was an active and ongoing investigation. WGMD News will have more information as soon as it is available.
