Democrat Jane Hovington to Run for 37th District House Seat in Special Election
The Sussex County Democratic Party has chosen Jane Hovington as candidate in the upcoming Special Election for the 37th District House seat that was recently vacated by former Representative Ruth Briggs King. Hovington has lived in Georgetown for more than 35 years and has a long history of public service.
The special election is scheduled for Thursday, December 21. Early voting opportunities, will be available at least 10 days before the election, which will be provided at sites designated by the Department of Elections.

As a lifetime member and former chair of the Sussex County branch of the NAACP, a former member of the Georgetown Town Council, and the current Chair of the Sussex County Democratic Party, the Chair of the Board of Adjustment for the Town of Georgetown and Chair of the Richard Allen Coalition, Jane has demonstrated a deep commitment to community service and advocacy.
In her various leadership roles, including those in the Shechinah Empowerment Center Re-entry Program, Small Wonder Ones Child Care Center, the Richard Allen Coalition, and the Indian River School District’s CAMP program, Jane has tirelessly worked to ensure all community members, regardless of their age, background, or economic status, have the tools and support they need to thrive.
 “I have called this community home for almost my entire life, and it is my deep-rooted commitment to its residents that propels me into this race,” said Jane Hovington.
“As a lifelong advocate for justice and equality, I am eager to continue my work on behalf of the people of the 37th District and Delaware as a whole. Throughout my career, I’ve fought to strengthen our public education system and ensure services and support reach the most vulnerable members of our community. I plan to continue that fight in Dover.”

The 37th House District encompasses Georgetown and parts of Millsboro, Harbeson, and Lewes.
