Delmarva Power Spreads The Word About Energy Assistance Options
Delmarva Power hosted a virtual energy assistance summit Wednesday to provide guidance for customers who continue to feel the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Non-profits and other community partners in Delaware and Maryland are spreading the word that energy assistance options are available for people who are facing financial hardships.
“The last couple of years have been extremely taxing to the energy sector and communities in Delaware, Del. Energy Assistance Director Haly Laasme said. “However, through it all we have learned that diversity is the prerequisite for the resilience of our society and the survival of mankind. I am grateful for the educational partnerships between Delaware companies and community agencies who strongly believe that is our obligation to help one another during these unparalleled times.”
According to Delmarva Power, more than 100,000 customers were behind on their energy bills as of February, but only about 15,100 had established payment arrangements. In 2021, DPL helped nearly 18,000 customers secure $34-million in energy assistance that helped them pay their energy bills with no obligation to pay back.
“We know that many of our customers are facing challenges and we need to work together to support them,” Delmarva Power Region President Doug Mokoid said. “Our community partners are on the front lines of connecting our customers with available energy assistance, and we need their support more than ever. There are millions of dollars in energy assistance available and we need to ensure we are supporting our customers in every way possible to get access to that support.”
