Law enforcement officials in Delaware and Maryland will both be taking part in National Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 27 with take-back locations across both states.

In Delaware, residents are asked to dispose of their unwanted or expired medications at a number of locations in all three counties from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “Both the direct prescribing of opioids for pain as well as the abundance of these dangerous drugs in our medicine cabinets and communities, have been a significant driver of the opioid epidemic,” said DPH Medical Director Dr. Rick Hong.

In Maryland, State Police Barracks will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as well, offering citizens an opportunity to dispose of unwanted or unused medications. The Maryland State Police have collected about 19,897 pounds of expired and unwanted prescription medications combined through similar events since 2014. In October, state police removed close to 1,895 pounds of prescription medications from circulation.
