US Senator Chris Coons applauded the announcement by FEMA that the Delaware State Fire School will receive an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Award totaling $395,910 for personal protection equipment, extrication equipment, and vehicle fire simulators.

Coons visited the Delaware State Fire School last week and says that he saw firsthand how critical it is that we provide funding for proper training and equipment for Delaware鈥檚 firefighters. This Assistance to Firefighters Grant will help ensure that firefighters who train at the Delaware State Fire School have the equipment and experience they need to safely respond to emergencies.

As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Coons secured $350 million for Assistance to Firefighter Grants in the Homeland Security appropriations bill, which passed the Committee on June 21. Senator Coons also co-sponsored S.829, the AFG and SAFER Program Reauthorization Act of 2017, which reauthorizes programs including Assistance to Firefighters Grants through Fiscal Year 2023. This bill was included in H.R.4661, the United States Fire Administration, AFG, and SAFER Program Reauthorization Act of 2017, which became law on January 3, 2018.
