Del. Redistricting Hearings This Week; Some Concern About New Maps

mark-levin-promo

Proposed new legislative districts are drawing some concern, as hearings on new maps of House and Senate districts are about to begin this week.

State Representative Bryan Shupe, R-Milford has shared a letter from Slaughter Beach Mayor Kathleen Lock, who said moving from the 18th State Senate District to the 16th District would disrupt the town’s more traditional connections with Sussex County in dealing with matters such as coastal storm risk management.

Sussex County would also get one more district. The 4th district would relocate to the Long Neck / Oak Orchard area. The district is currently located in Wilmington and is held by Representative Gerald Brady, who will not seek reelection. Brady has been under fire for insensitive comments in an email.

The House will hold a hearing on redistricting tonight (Monday) at 6:00 p.m., virtually and in person at Legislative Hall.

The Senate’s virtual hearing is Tuesday, followed by an in-person hearing Thursday.

A special General Assembly session is planned for November 1st.
