Deaths from Drug & Alcohol Intoxication Down on the Lower Shore of MD
February 7, 2018
Maryland’s Lower Shore counties have seen a drop in deaths related to drug and alcohol intoxication! The period from January through September of 2016 and 2017 saw a reduction of intoxication deaths by 20% in Somerset County, 42% in Worcester and 32% in Wicomico County. This comes at a time when overall drug and alcohol related deaths in Maryland are on the rise. As for opioid-related deaths – all three counties saw a decrease last year from 2016. A combined effort from law enforcement, public health and community partners are credited with the decrease.
