DE Sen proposes legislation to give Special Counsel Rob Mueller job security
DE Sen. Chris Coons seeks to codify special counsels, like the one being run by Robert Mueller.
Sen. Coons, along with Democrat Sen. Cory Booker and Republican Sens. Lindsay Graham and Thom Tillis, introduced legislation this week that ensures special counsels can only be fired for good cause by a senior Justice Department official.
Said reasoning must be provided in writing, and provides a 10-day window for the counsel to appeal the reasons for termination. The legislation would also preserve staffing, documents, and other materials important to any investigations while terminations are pending.
The legislation is meant to ensure President Donald Trump will not fire Special Counselor Robert Mueller as he helms a wide-reaching investigation into the president鈥檚 past activities.
