State Senator Gary Simpson likely will not seek another term in office.  State Representative Dave Wilson today filed as a candidate for the 18th District Senate seat.  Wilson has served the 35th District in the state House for 10 years and a large part of that district overlaps the 18th Senate District.  In a release, Wilson says he decided to file for the General Election now to be as transparent as possible.  Senator Simpson currently serves the 18th District.

Full Release from Representative Dave Wilson

State Rep. Dave Wilson today filed the necessary paperwork to be a candidate in this fall’s election for the 18th Senatorial District.

State Sen. Gary Simpson currently holds the seat but is believed not to be seeking re-election this fall.

“Gary has made it known he is not running again,” Rep. Wilson said.  “The information has been circulating for a while and I don’t think I’m disclosing anything that hasn’t already been discussed in coffee shops throughout the district.  I have spoken with Sen. Simpson and told him about my intentions.”

Rep. Wilson’s filing means he will not be returning to the House seat he has held since 2008.   A large section of his current 35th Representative District overlaps the 18th Senatorial District.

“The transition to the Senate a natural one,” Rep. Wilson said.  “I have been honored to represent the people of the 35th District for the last 10 years and I look forward to continue serving many of them in the Senate.  As a small businessman with a combined 20-years of public service at the county and state levels, I think I can bring a high-level experience and effectiveness to the Senate, should the people of the district place their faith in me.”

Rep. Wilson said he decided to file for the general election now to be as transparent as possible.  “I wanted to toss my hat in the ring early so that everyone involved was aware of what I was doing,” he said.  “My decision will impact others and I felt an obligation to be open and honest about my intentions.”

The 18th Senatorial District is located in southern Kent County and northern Sussex County, spanning from the Maryland state line east to the Delaware Bay.  It includes the municipalities of Harrington, Houston, Farmington, Greenwood, Ellendale, Milford, and Slaughter Beach.

Dave Wilson is the owner of Wilson’s Auctions.  He is also a breeder of Haflinger horses.  In addition to his work in the General Assembly, Dave Wilson has served as Sussex County Register in Chancery (1992-2000) and Sussex County Register of Wills (2006-2008).
