Coastal Flood Warning for Parts of Lower Shore

The National Weather Service in Wakefield, VA has issued a Coastal Flood Warning for parts of the lower shore including all of Wicomico County.  Salisbury residents can expect to see higher-than-normal water levels in the Wicomico River, especially at either side of high tide for the next two tide cycles.  High tides will occur again in Salisbury at 7:27 p.m. this evening (Wednesday, March 7), and again at 7:56 a.m. tomorrow morning (Thursday, March 8).

The Wicomico County Department of Emergency Services has advised that residents can expect flooding of areas adjacent to the Wicomico River, which will result in an elevated threat of property damage to homes and businesses along the waterfront and shoreline.

In order to help residents be better informed during events such as this, the City has made its GIS Emergency Event Viewer publicly accessible. The Emergency Event Viewer utilizes Geographic Information Systems to overlay maps with warnings and advisories, radar, forecasts, flood gauges, shelter locations, and the location of emergency services. Downtown business owners who have concerns about the potential of high water associated with this storm may utilize the sandbags which have been left at the pavilion at Market and Baptist Streets. Please take no more than 10, and return them to the pavilion as you’re able.
