Chemical Spill at Mountaire Poultry in Selbyville
Crews from Selbyville and several area fire companies were called for a chemical spill at Mountaire Poultry in Selbyville just before noon. Selbyville Police Chief Scott Collins tells WGMD that its believed that a forklift punctured a 350-gallon tank of Peracetic Acid, which is used as a dilution for the sterilization of equipment. The spill was contained to an area of the staging pad outside of the live haul doors. Six people were treated at the scene – four others were taken to area hospitals for treatment of inhalation. Hosier Street and other area roads were closed for about 2 hours.
Fire and EMS crews from Roxana, Frankford, Dagsboro and Millville assisted, as well as multiple paramedic units and the hazmat unit from DNREC.
