Beach Replenishment Update
Dredging has moved from Rehoboth Beach to Dewey Beach. Some beach crossovers are closed during the replenishment work, however heavy seas and strong winds are slowing the progress and the south end may not be completed by Thursday when the crews halt for the holiday weekend. If not completed – work will resume Monday evening.
While dredging is finished in Rehoboth Beach there is still some work to complete – repair of the stormwater outfall at Maryland Avenue is underway. Reconstruction of the ADA-accessible dune crossing at Maryland Avenue as well as the installation of sand fencing and grass planting will begin after Memorial Day.
In Fenwick Island, town officials report equipment delays continue. One of the dredges has been moved offsite for repairs and it’s replacement is due back in Fenwick after the holiday weekend.
Replenishment in Bethany Beach is expected to begin in June and should take 15 to 25 days depending on the weather and no equipment problems.
All replenishment work will stop at 6pm on Friday for the holiday weekend. Work will resume Monday evening.
