Georgetown Man Charged with 4th Offense DUI

A Georgetown man has been arrested after a vehicle pursuit early Monday morning in the Bridgeville area. Delaware State Police spotted a Kia make a left turn without signaling just before 1:30 but when police tried to stop the Kia, the driver sped off on Chaplains Chapel Road. The driver of the Kia, 48 year old Rodney Hearn of Georgetown, finally stopped on Tuckers Road and was arrested. Police say Hearn showed signs of impairment and was found to be in possession of a small amount of crack cocaine which he attempted to destroy and drug paraphernalia. A computer check showed Hearn had three prior convictions for DUI.

Hearn was taken to Troop 5 and charged with the following offenses:

  • 4th Offense DUI (Felony)
  • Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (Felony)
  • Tampering With Physical Evidence (Felony)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Numerous traffic violations

Hearn was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $15,211 cash bond.
