Three Delaware State Police vehicles were damaged Wednesday night as troopers were responding to a burglary in progress.

Police said a 62-year-old Lewes man heading northbound on Harbeson Road approached the scene, drifted off the roadway and collided with a fully marked, unoccupied police vehicle with its rear emergency equipment activated that was parked on the shoulder. The front of the police vehicle struck the back of another police SUV, which was then forced into the side of another police vehicle that was occupied by a trooper. The trooper in the SUV was not hurt.

The man who was driving the car was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening. He was charged with inattentive driving, failure to maintain a lane and expired registration.
