DelDOT officials report there were fewer fatal crashes on Delaware roads in 2023 than in 2022. There were 137 fatalities last year, compared to 164 in 2022 and the numbers are lower across the board – a 13% reduction in pedestrian fatalities, 29% reduction in bicycle deaths and a 32% reduction in motorcycle fatalities. While the decrease in deaths on Delaware roads is encouraging – there’s plenty of work still to be done.

DelDOT, Delaware State Police and the Office of Highway Safety will hold a safety summit on April 17th at the Chase Center in Wilmington to discuss ongoing efforts and new initiatives to address crashes and fatalities on Delaware roads.

Since the start of 2024, there have been three deadly crashes on Delaware roads.
