Sussex County has a new chief constable.

During this morning’s county council meeting, County Administrator Todd Lawson introduced Michael Costello as Sussex County’s new constable. He replaces Alan Holloway, who retired earlier this year. Costello lives in Lincoln and has been a resident of Sussex County his entire adult life.

“I’m honored and excited to be joining Sussex County government,” Costello says.

Councilman Vance Phillips brought up a concern about trash being dumped on the side of the road in the county. Costello says many residents have brought up concerns that this year has been the worst for trash disposal on the side of the road.

“If one of the constables seems to be in an area taking care of another matter and notices, maybe we can do a little proactive contact with the property owner and lend a word of courtesy.”

Costello says he will also look into creating policy regarding trash codes and the law.
