DNREC Receives Grant to Study Bat Disease

White-nose syndrome kills millions of bats around the country annually

DNREC has received a federal grant to study white-nose syndrome in Delaware’s bat population. The $23,000 will be used to research, monitor bat populations and detect and respond to white-nose syndrome. It will also cover a part-time employee at Fort Delaware State Park where the disease was detected in the bat population in 2012. White nose syndrome has killed millions of bats across the country.
