Delaware’s Beaches Best for Water Quality

The National Resources Defense Council found that of the 24 beaches that were tested in Delaware, 15 beaches (63%) did not have any samples exceed the national Beach Action Value (BAV) safety threshold, seven beaches (29%) had 0-10% of samples exceed the national BAV safety threshold, and two beaches (8%) had 10-20% of samples exceeded the national BAV safety threshold.

The beaches with the highest exceedance rates of the BAV were the Rehoboth-Virginia Avenue Beach in Sussex County (11%) and Deauville Beach in Sussex County (11%).

Overall, of the 30 states tested, Delaware was rated to have the best beaches overall compared to other states.
