Delaware state lawmakers were supposed to be done with this year’s legislative season at midnight this morning, but lawmakers needed some extra time.

Along with some unfinished business was debate over bill designed to lighten the state’s burden on Delaware’s casino industry.  The proposal has the state paying for some of the vendor fees to help reduce costs since the state takes a large sum of money off the top of all revenue generated at casinos.

Democrats in the House of Representatives representing primarily northern districts were against the proposal.  Representative D.E. Williams proposed an amendment to the bill that would have prevented the casinos from laying off more than 3% of its staff if they expected to keep the money.  That proposal was struck down.

After hours of debate and deliberations on the proposal, the bill eventually passed 27-10.
