Surveillance Footage Shows Man Who Allegedly Started Fire in St. Paul's Rectory Filling Gas Can Just Before Fire Started

Nov 29, 2013 -- 7:03am

Ocean City continues to mourn the death of St. Paul's by the Sea Episcopal Church Reverend David Dingwall in Tuesday morning's fire in the church's Rectory.

A local TV station has received surveillance footage from a gas station near the church that allegedly shows John Sterner buying a gas can, and then filling it at a gas pump. This hasn't yet been confirmed by the Ocean City Police and Fire Marshal's Office. If it is confirmed by police, it would explain how Sterner became engulfed in flames, and how he could've easily spread the fire to the structure and a woman who was volunteering in the Rectory. She's being treated for serious burns at Johns Hopkins Bayview Burn Center in Baltimore.
