Delaware Congressman John Carney is supporting a pair of bills aimed at helping veterans.
Carney spoke on the floor of the House Monday night to express his support for the Vulnerable Veterans Housing Reform Act of 2013, and the Veterans Advisory Committee on Education Improvement Act of 2013. The Vulnerable Veterans Housing Reform Act is designed to improve access to affordable housing for veterans who are severely disabled. Nearly 13,000 veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are homeless. The roughly 60,000 homeless veterans make up 13 percent of the U.S.’s homeless population. The Veterans’ Advisory Committee on Education Improvement Act reauthorizes the committee through 2015. The committee offers oversight on VA education benefit programs and services, and recommends new ones.
Both bills were passed by the House.
