"Blessing of the Animals" This Afternoon at Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist in Milton

Oct 19, 2013 -- 8:12am

Parishioners and their pets will be blessed today in Milton.

The Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist will be holding its annual “Blessing of the Animals” service at 4 o’clock this afternoon on the front lawn of the church on Federal Street in Milton. The service will be conducted by Reverend John Barton, the pastor of The Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist, along with Pastor Dusty Pruitt of The United Church of Christ.

Today’s service is a fall celebration that is held around the birthday of St. Francis of Assisi, who was born in Italy in 1182. St. Francis left his rich family, and instead chose to live a simple life of poverty as he followed God and wandered through the mountains, blessing animals during his travels.
