Bells at fire stations in Salisbury and across the country will be ringing today to honor firefighters who’ve died in the line of duty.
The Salisbury Fire Department will be taking part in the third annual Bells Across America for Fallen Firefighters, hosted by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. The Fire Department will be holding a remembrance ceremony at 10 o’clock this morning at Station 16 on Cypress Street. National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Executive Director Ronald Siarnicki explains that bells not only signal the beginning and end of a fire call, but also notifies firefighters that one of their own has died while serving their community.
This weekend is National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, and will be highlighted by a memorial service at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland on Sunday.
