350 Delaware National Guardsmen Sent Home Without Pay Due To Government Shutdown

Oct 02, 2013 -- 7:43am

The effects of the partial government shutdown are being felt in different ways across Delmarva, and not even the National Guard is immune from those effects.

Starting at 11 o’clock Tuesday night, about 350 full-time soldiers and airmen in the Delaware National Guard have been sent home without pay until further notice. The Guardsmen reported for duty as scheduled at 7 o’clock Tuesday morning. During their four hours on duty, they were briefed and got some questions answered about the shutdown. They also learned about the resources that will be available to them during the shutdown, such as health insurance, unemployment and financial counseling.
