17 Businesses Register as Public Benefit Corporations

Aug 01, 2013 -- 3:41pm

Just a few weeks ago Governor Jack Markell signed into law legislation to enact public benefit corporations.  On the first day that companies could file, 17 businesses submitted their paperwork – setting a national record for the most companies filing on the first day.  Two of the first to register as Delaware PBC’s – Method – an eco-home care brand and Plum Organics – an organic baby food business.  Delaware is the 20th jurisdiction to enact benefit corporation legislation – which makes it possible for a corporation to form, convert or merge into a public benefit corporation in Delaware – strengthening the state’s position as a leader in corporate law. The governor says benefit corporations have the potential to create high quality jobs and improve the quality of life in our communities.
