Maryland Insurance Administration Announces Health Insurance Rates Won't Go Up As Much As Previously Estimated

Jul 27, 2013 -- 2:16pm

The Maryland Insurance Administration has released its final rates under the state's health insurance exchange under the Affordable Care Act (aka ObamaCare).

In announcing the rates on Friday, the Insurance Administration said that rates will only go up by two-thirds as much as previously estimated. In April, CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield, the largest non-profit health insurance company in Maryland, announced a proposal to raise its rates for individuals by an average of 25 percent, and in some cases up to 150 percent for young people, because of the law.

Representative Dr. Andy Harris (R-MD) says this announcement by the Insurance Administration shows that Marylanders will pay more for health insurance under ObamaCare, not less as promised by President Obama.
