Dewey Beach Police Stepping Up Efforts To Promote Pedestrian Safety

Jul 27, 2013 -- 2:02pm

After several fatal accidents involving pedestrians just outside of town so far this summer, police in Dewey Beach are stepping up their enforcement in an effort to prevent more pedestrian deaths.

Officers are manning intersections along Route 1 in town to make pedestrians cross at marked crosswalks. On Friday, a Pedestrian Safety Station was set up at The Starboard, in conjunction with the Office of Highway Safety, Beebe Hospital, and local police departments. Dewey Beach Police have been instructed to fully enforce Jaywalking violations, as well as to get drivers on Route 1 to slow down.
