Copper and Metal Theft Still a Problem Around Delmarva

Police in Salisbury are investigating numerous reports of HVAC and metal thefts.  Police say copper theft from HVAC units has become a serious problem – not just in Salisbury but nationwide because the value of copper has increased – and selling it is a way to make easy money.  Police say business and homeowners should take proactive steps to ensure their HVAC units are safeguarded.  Thieves are looking for copper coils in HVAC systems and refrigerators, copper flashing, gutters and other metal components – installed or not, piping in heating and electrical systems – both inside and out and wiring of all types in occupied, vacant or buildings under construction.  Some tips for home and business owners – improve lighting around HVAC units and integrate your unit with your alarm system and install surveillance equipment to a digital recording device.
