MERR Institute Looking for Volunteers for Annual Dolphin Count

Jul 02, 2013 -- 4:01am

It's time again for the annual dolphin count.

Officials at the MERR Institute in Lewes want everyone to mark your calendars for Saturday, July 20 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Observation sites will be set up along the coast from Fenwick Island to Lewes, along the Delaware Bay from Lewes to Woodland Beach and along the Inland bays.

Anyone wishing to participate should call MERR Executive Director Suzanne Thurman at 228.5029.

This year’s dolphin count is being dedicated to long-time dolphin count volunteers, Liz and Lew Dumont.  Liz and Lew have been volunteering since the very first dolphin count in the late 90's, and have loyally participated in every count since then, covering the Herring Point site at Cape Henlopen State Park; the couple passed away during this past year.
