The Delaware House is set to vote today on the Gender Identity Nondiscrimination Act of 2013.
The House Administration Committee last week released House Bill 97 which is aimed at protecting transgender people in Delaware by outlawing discrimination based on gender identity.
The legislation was approved by the State Senate June 7; it adds gender identity to the existing list of protected nondiscrimination categories, including race, age, religion and sexual orientation. The bill also allows for enhanced penalties under Delaware's hate crimes law for targeting someone based on his or her gender identity.
