If you have business with the IRS this week – Thursday is your last day to get it done! Thanks to the budget situation including the sequester – the Internal Revenue Service will be closed on Friday. This is the second furlough day – and that means that all IRS offices and the toll-free hotlines, the Taxpayer Advocate Service and the assistance centers across the country are closed. Employees are not paid on furlough days and no tax returns will be processed and no compliance-related activities will occur. However – filing and payment deadlines – remain unchanged and the Treasury Department’s Electronic Federal Payment System will operate as usual.
