REPLENISH Food Recycling Food Program Kicks Off in Rehoboth

May 20, 2013 -- 4:38am

Delaware Gov. Jack Markell will today join DNREC Secretary Collin O’Mara, Ag Secretary Ed Kee and others to celebrate the success of the beach-area restaurant recycling program REPLENISH.

REPLENISH is a unique recycling program that collects food scraps from local restaurants in the Delaware resort region to be converted into nutrient-rich compost for local farms. Farms in turn grow better crops, including produce served by local restaurants; restaurants save on trash disposal costs; and landfill waste and greenhouse gas emissions are reduced for a healthier environment.

Today's event starts at 11 a.m. at the Rehoboth Beach Museum.
