DNREC Stepping Up Enforcement In C&D Canal Wildlife Area

May 10, 2013 -- 11:50am

DNREC Fish & Wildlife agents responded to 33 complaints, issued 39 citations, conducted 84 boating safety and fishing compliance checks, and met with more than 1,100 hunters, boaters, fishermen and residents during the past week. 27 of the citations issued were because of increased enforcement at the C&D Canal Wildlife Area, and the recreational trail that’s currently under construction there.

A dozen citations were written for trespassing after hours on a state wildlife area. Seven people were charged with unlicensed fishing in New Castle County, and one person was charged with operating an unregistered boat in Sussex County.

With more people venturing into the outdoors with the warmer weather, Fish & Wildlife agents are reminding off-road vehicle operators to stay on designated roads. The vehicles have to be licensed, and speeds must remain below 20 miles per hour.
