May 5 - 11 is Arson Awareness Week in Maryland

May 03, 2013 -- 7:52pm

Next week is Arson Awareness Week in Maryland.  Arson Awareness week is an effort to raise consciousness about arson fires.  Arsons are the most costly of all fires and this week is the time to learn how to better combat arsons.  This year’s theme is “reducing residential arson.”  Fire officials say the motivations behind arson are many – from curiosity to vandalism, concealing another crime, revenge, excitement and insurance fraud.  The Maryland State Fire Marshal urges all Marylanders to be proactive in their communities and remember the months of fear that went on in Virginia as building after building burned just over the state line.
