Federal Funding Announced to Repair Beaches, Dunes & Jetty after Superstorm Sandy

Apr 30, 2013 -- 2:10pm

When Superstorm Sandy came onshore last summer – Delaware had just opened the new Indian River Inlet Bridge and completed a beach replenishment project which helped the First State to weather the storm.  However Sandy did deplete the beaches and dunes and left Route 1 flooded and sand-covered and Governor Jack Markell says in better shape than the beaches to our north in New Jersey…..

The beach construction project will include rebuilding the beaches from Fenwick Island to Lewes, rebuilding the dune line and north beach at the Indian River Inlet and the jetty – the $30-million in funding for the project comes from the federal government..
